We’d like to say wine was an equal playing field. But sadly, when it comes to making our favourite drop, the gender gap is profound – and closing it has been painstakingly slow.
There’s no issue with attracting women into a wine career in Australia. Half of all graduates coming out with oenology degrees from universities are women! But staying and forging a career is tough. And female representation in senior winemaking and viticulture roles remains woefully low. A mere 10%.
