Wine Rules 2012

What? Wine Rules – touch football, wine and fun!

When? Sunday 18 November 2012, Elwood Park, Victoria. From 10am  – 6pm

Why? A great chance to see wine industry types with mud on their face, as well as try some amazing Victorian wines, all while helping to raise money for St Mary’s House of Welcome.

Football and wine are not natural bedfellows (beer filled that dance card long ago), but once a year they unite in a grand fundraising effort in Melbourne called “Wine Rules”.

And it’s not often you’ll catch us egging you on to get to an afternoon of footy. But stay with me for a moment, because I’ve already said there’ll be wine haven’t I?

Wine Rules is a round robin touch football tournament made up of teams from leading wineries across Victoria, all in the name of raising money for St Mary’s House of Welcome – a drop-in centre who provide essential meals and support for Melbourne’s homeless.

Now here’s the important part: In addition to battling it out on the footy field each participating winery will also be bringing along their finest wines for all their supporters to enjoy!

But there’s not just the football to watch in between “tastings”. Oh no. With over 2000 people expected to join in the fun, Wine Rules 2012 offers a feast of gourmet food, live music and activities for all the family.

Games commence at 10.00am with an anticipated 30 teams made up from the Victorian Wine industry. Finishing up with a Grand Final at 4.30pm, following the presentation of the 2012 Wine Rules Trophy. Children’s activities include a face painter, a balloonist, a children’s painting area and a petting zoo! Some of your favourite sporting heroes may even pop in for some footy practice…

Wine Rules is St Mary’s House of Welcome’s major annual fundraising event. Your participation in Wine Rules 2012 will have a direct positive impact on the lives of Melbourne’s most disadvantaged by enabling us to continue to provide them with security, food, social support, and training and skills development.

So, fabulous ladies of Melbourne, please get down to Elwood Park on Sunday 18th November to enjoy some great wine and show your support!
