What wine loving women said about the Yalumba Y Series Pinot Grigio 2011

Ta-daa! Here we have it, the first of the big, fabulous reviews that are an amalgamation (good grief how I love that word) of all the scoring cards that were sent in by the women participating in our online wine club.

The Yalumba Y Series Pinot Grigio 2011 was our first ever white wine of the month, in our first ever month, of Australia’s first online women’s wine club. Yep, that’s a lot of pressure.

But it seems to have lived up to the challenge. The verdict was unanimous. Women loved it!

Scores of 4 (I’d buy a bottle) or 5 (Fabulous) came pouring in, with 5’s being slightly more popular. Wow! To create a wine with such mainstream appeal is quite an achievement.

Of course, it wasn’t everyone’s cup of…erm…wine. And that’s fine too! We all have different tastes and preferences, and we welcome all wine lovers here. There is no right or wrong. There is only what you LIKE and what you DON’T – and we want you to speak up with confidence. A special thanks to all those women who gave their honest opinions, whatever they were.

So what did we think of it? Here’s what was on the downloadable Tasting Notes we wrote for women to use while they were trying this wine:

(And if you like, you can still grab a copy of the full, downloadable Tasting Notes and Scoring Card.)

That’s what we said. But what came back from our women wine club members was even more insightful, thoughtful and wonderfully honest. Here’s some of our favourite comments about the Yalumba Y Series Pinot Grigio 2011:

“Loved it! Are you sure this is a Pinot Grigio? I didn’t actually think I liked them! Will definitely be buying this again”

“Honey and citrus on the nose. Wonderful crispness in the mouth. Apple/pear tastes with perhaps a lime twinge. I enjoyed this with a chicken salad with a lemon yoghurt & coriander dressing and it was a divine match.”

“I tend to prefer something a little less fruity, but I still enjoyed it and am looking forward to trying it matched with a summer berry dessert.”

“The price of this wine is unbelievable. I usually steer clear of wines in this low price range, but this has really surprised me. A much better wine than a lot of the more expensive Pinot Grigio’s I’ve been buying.”

So that’s a wrap for the white wine of the month from the online women’s wine club, May 2012!
