The three reasons Champagne is so fabulous

Champagne is a truly fabulous drink. We all like a bit of bling, and I always say that a flute full of champagne is like having bling in your glass! But, what is it about this French import that makes it so special? What is it that makes it feel so much more exciting than drinking other bubbly wines?

Let me start by talking about it in terms we all understand. Something that’s become a bit of a theme here at The Fabulous Ladies’ Wine Society. Something we all love. Shoes.

Sparkling wine and Champagne are a bit like shoes. We can get around all the time in perfectly comfortable affordable shoes – and there is absolutely nothing wrong with those. But, every so often along comes an occasion when we all want to take out the Louboutins and strut our stuff (or just wish we could).

The Louboutins are still shoes, but they are oh-so-special. We don’t squash our petite little toes in them every day because then they would cease to be special. Yes, they cost a little more, but that’s because of all the design and engineering that goes into them, and the rarity of acquiring them.

Champagne is like Louboutins. It’s a bit spesh. And here’s why:

The three reasons Champagne is so fabulous

1. Champagne can only be called ‘champagne’ if it is made from grapes grown in a specially mapped out area (called, surprisingly enough ‘Champagne’) about 160km east of Paris. If it aint grown there, it aint officially Champagne!

2. It can only be made from one of, or a blend of, three distinct grape varieties – Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. Yup, that’s it. Only those three.

3. There are strict rules as to how the champagne is grown, harvested, pressed and produced. Not to mention how long it is left in the cellar before it is even allowed to pop its cork!

In contrast, sparkling wine produced elsewhere in the world does not have to follow the same rules or meet the same conditions.

Louboutin shoes are practically an engineering masterpiece. They are perfectly balanced in the heel, leaving the wearer extremely comfortable at dizzying heights without having to worry about falling down – no matter how many flutes have crossed their lips.

Everyday shoes, however pretty and dazzling they might be, just don’t quite offer the same quality of experience.

The absolutely FABULOUS thing about champagne though, is that  – unlike shoes – you get to share around the happiness! If you do ever get to save up enough money to buy a pair of Louboutins, you will feel special at the party, but what about your friends? But arrive at a special occasion with a bottle of champagne to share, and all your friends will get to join in and wonderful memories are made. If enough of your friends bring a bottle of champagne along, you might all just feel like you are wearing Louboutins by the end of a party anyway!

One more thing – champagne doesn’t give you a hangover, much like Louboutins don’t give you sore feet. And that is as good a reason as any for choosing the ‘real deal’ if you want to remember that special occasion you are celebrating!
