Vendor Biography

Gemtree Wines is a family owned organic and biodynamic certified winery in McLaren Vale, South Australia, run by third generation viticulturist Melissa Brown with husband and winemaker Mike Brown.

We are proud to be biodynamic and organic farmers and are committed to operating our business sustainably.

At Gemtree we recycle everything we can from every aspect of the business, even our labels are made from sugar cane waste. Any draining water from the winery is treated and put back onto the vineyards, vegetative waste from the winery is composted then put back out onto the vineyards. Old drip lines are also recycled.

Like the rest of our winery and vineyards, our Tasting Room has been purpose built to have minimal impact on the environment and is sustainably run. The Tasting Room was built using recycled materials, is powered by solar panels and uses only rainwater.

Our Gemtree Eco Trail is the regeneration of 10-hectares of previously degraded and barren land that has now been restored to natural native beauty with over 50,000 native trees and shrubs planted. This space is free open space for the public to enjoy with a barbecue and playground facilities.

Our tourism experiences are all framed by our philosophies and values. Each of our experiences has a connection to sustainability and aims to educate our guests on what we have learned through sustainable, organic, and biodynamic farming whilst they enjoy the surroundings, delicious local food and our wines.

We are Certified Organic and Biodynamic by Australian Certified Organic, a certified member of Sustainable Winegrowing Australia, a planting partner of Biodiversity McLaren Vale and a contributing partner to Cleanhub.
