Description
The fruit for this wine was grown on our two estate vineyards. The first, Four Winds Vineyard, sits within a few hundred meters of our cellar door and the second, Kyeema Estate, is situated just off the Barton highway. These two sites offer a diversity of fruit through clonal variation and differing microclimates. This variation helps us craft a wine of balance and varietal expression typical of shiraz grown in the Canberra district.
The fruit was hand harvested in March and April according to flavour and tannin ripeness. Whole bunches were destemmed into small open fermenters and worked daily with pump overs and hand plunging to extract flavour and tannin. After gentle pressing, the wine was racked to French oak barriques (10% new) where it matured until December. Careful blending of our different parcels took place in January with bottling in February 2022.
“Deep and crystalline ruby-red colour in the glass. Crushed forest berries, white pepper and hot-stone aromatics. Medium-weight with dark berry fruit, cinnamon and pepper spices flowing and gliding through the palate. A fine note of acidity brings vibrancy and there’s enough supple tannins to guide it quite long and dry the finish” 92 points.
