Usually when something is called AAA it’s trying to appear on the front page of the phone book. But this luscious red from McLaren Vale doesn’t have to oversell it’s self. In fact, it is remarkably humble.
Only when you read the fine print, for example, do you learn the Paxton AAA Shiraz Grenache 2011 is Certified Biodynamic. But from the first taste you could almost guess at it’s uber natural pedigree.
The pure, juicy, warm and generous red fruit flavours are intense and mouth filling. They smash onto your palate and perform a little bush dance of joy, before lingering there for a while to reveal rich, almost Christmas-y spice. The mix of 61% Shiraz and 39% Grenache is spot on, and allows all the showy dancing (and generous flavours) of the Grenache to shine through.
Slurp it down with fig and gorgonzola pizza or some good ol’ lamb chops.
Rating: 4.5/5 Incredible value and a real crowd pleaser.
