On it’s 10th anniversary, the Orange Wine Festival will showcase the very best of the region’s wineries and produce over three event-filled weekends. Kicking off on Friday 16 October, a selection of the region’s talented chefs, along with guest chefs from Sydney, will create unique experiences showcasing the regions cool-climate wines at Orange’s renowned cellar doors, vineyards and restaurants.
Visitors will be able to explore the region’s food, produce, artisans and growers like never before through a range of unique signature events including winemaker dinners, tastings, lunches, walks and tours at one of Australia’s largest regional celebrations.
Celebrated Italian chef Giovanni Pilu, from two-hatted restaurant Pilu at Freshwater, will pop up at Philip Shaw on Sunday 24th October, pairing a Sardinian feast with Phillip Shaw Wines. The Old Mill Café will collaborate with Mortimers Wines offering delicious tapas, while Twisted River will create the ultimate picnic setting for families complemented with music in the vines.
Visitors will have the opportunity to walk or cycle the three-kilometre tasting trail through Heifer Station, or bring the kids to enjoy the farm life with tractor rides and their petting zoo. Colmar Estate is offering guests the opportunity to compare the best pinot noirs from Orange, or taste from the barrels and make your own cuvee with Charlie Svenson at the De Salis Winery.
For those wanting to explore the regional artisans, producers and wine all in one place, Emmaville Cottage at the Botanic Gardens opens for the Family Market on Sunday 25th October. A selection of the region’s best venues including Tonic, The Butter Factory @ Phillip Shaw, The Agrestic Grocer and Cumulus Estate Wines will host long and lazy Sunday brunches and lunch offerings.
“The three-weekend format was a huge success in 2014, allowing visitors more time to experience Orange and the festival,” said festival chair Michelle Stivens. “Spring is such a lovely time of year to visit Orange, with the leaves returning to the vines and the blossom in full bloom.”
