Why we love these wines
It’s time to get your blend on! Christie Schulz is the reigning Queen of the Barossa, so when she says drink blends, we listen. She produces these two classic blends we trying this month because – like us – she knows that some of the world’s best and most sought-after wines are made of several grape varieties, not just one. So stop thinking single varietal wines are where it’s at, and instead use this month to discover for yourself how premium and downright delicious these two Barossa blends can be. Two which are becoming rather famous in their own right. Both styles of wine originate in the Rhone Valley in France, so if French wines are your thing then there’s another reason to give these a whirl, n’est-ce pas?
Who are Turkey Flat?
So you love the Barossa? It doesn’t get much more Barossa than Turkey Flat – one of the region’s best loved and awarded wineries with some of the oldest vineyards in the country. Christie Schulz’s family have been growing grapes at Turkey Flat for 170 years, but it was she who started Turkey Flat and it’s her strong belief that ‘old brands can still be cool!’ that inspires her to lead one of Australia’s favourite wine brands to new heights. We’ve loved Christie and her wines for years, and she’s an original powerhouse of Australian wine. She’s been breaking new ground and forging her global path in a notoriously blokey environment for nearly three decades, and she did it all on her own. Oh, and did we mention that last year Turkey Flat won the coveted Jimmy Watson Trophy, Australia’s most prestigious red wine award! Yep, she’s a pretty fabulous woman of wine alright.

But it’s the deliciously dry and lingering finish with a zesty hit of ginger that will keep you coming back for more. Keep the food simple with a rustic roast chicken, maple-glazed sweet potato & fresh salad or opt for something on the fragrantly spicy side such as korma curry or rice dishes.

Think of it as the best of the Barossa in a glass – juicy dark red and black fruits, spice and warmth. Sure to be a family favourite, it’s only right that you serve it with foods that also carry that same badge. Things like spaghetti bolognaise, braises and stews.
