Why we love these wines
Margaret River is famous for it’s breathtaking beaches that back onto world-class vineyards. And of all the wines it produces the Sauvignon Blanc-Semillon/Semillon-Sauvignon Blanc blend and Cabernet Sauvignon are two of its most acclaimed.
While Xanadu the movie was all about bling on skates, we thought it only right that the two wines this month have sufficient bling of their own. The Xanadu Exmoor SBS 2016 recently won a GOLD MEDAL at the Perth Royal Wine Show 2017 and was included in Matthew Jukes Top 100 Australian Wines 2017. So Don’t Walk Away from that one.
While the Xanadu Cabernet 2014 awards include Cabernet Trophy, National Wine Show of Australia 2016; Gold Medal – Halliday Wine Companion, Cabernet Challenge 2016 and Gold Medal – 2016 Langton’s Margaret River Wine Show. Try them both and suddenly you’ll be singing “I’m alive!”
Who are Xanadu?
Doctor John Lagan founded Xanadu 40 years ago this year – which was just a couple of years ahead of Livvy putting on her roller skates. ‘Margs’, as the locals call Margaret River, is still a relatively new wine producing area. The whole region is celebrating its 50th birthday this year! Making Xanadu one of the earlier arrivals.
Lovers of literature will remember Xanadu as Samuel Coleridge’s mysterious, idyllic, exotic city; home of Kubla Khan. Dr Lagan, himself a great literature enthusiast, drew parallels between Coleridge’s visions of utopia and his newly adopted home, and thus the name Xanadu was born.
So follow the good doctor’s orders and make sure you partake in some of Xanadu’s finest this month!

Xanadu 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon
Variety: Cabernet Sauvignon

While the SBS is smart, savvy and filled with everyday joy, we’re going up a whole new level with this Xanadu Cabernet. Olivia may not have been at her show-stopping best in Xanadu, but this Cabernet will have you remembering her in better moments. It’s oh-so-confident and bold with its generous palate of boysenberries, blackberries and plum, with hints of violets and black olives. Exceptional structure too, with cheek bones higher than the glitter blush can reach.
