Who are Majella?
The Lynn family run Majella wines, and they have been in Coonawarra for so long, and are so important to the region, that the road the vineyard and winery are on is even named after them! They’ve been producing grapes since 1972 and started their own wine label in 1991. From 1999 onwards all the grapes grown on the Majella vineyards have been processed on-site at their own winery, and they only use their own grapes in their wines – meaning they can control every aspect of production.
So it’s probably no surprise to learn that they are one of the most awarded small wineries in Australia. Pretty, fabulous hey?

Majella 2016 Riesling
Region: Coonawarra, SA
RRP: $17.00 as at 25/10/17
Feeling hot? There’s nothing like the refreshing allure of cold riesling as the temperatures outside fire up. And this one is pretty damn hot itself – having featured in the Hot 100 Wines list for South Australia. It comes from a single vineyard in Majella’s Coonawarra estate, which was planted in 1994. It’s gently pressed with very limited skin contact and is fermented in stainless steel tanks – all to ensure those crisp, fresh, apple and lime flavours are hitting your palate front and centre. With a little hint of spice in the background that adds a warm zing (like how Nanna added cinnamon to the apple pie) the result is a wine you’ll happily keep pouring while the sun shines and the food is dished up. Try it with crisp lavosh smeared with fresh goats curd and sprinkled with baby thyme leaves for a food and wine party in your mouth.
Majella ‘The Musician’ 2014
Variety: Cabernet Sauvignon 67% & Shiraz 33%
Region: Coonawarra, SA
RRP: $18.00 as at 25/10/17
It doesn’t get much more Aussie than a Cabernet Shiraz blend, but there’s nothing ‘average’ about The Musician. Since it’s first release in 2004, has won 7 trophies and 79 medals, making it a high-performer indeed. Even more incredible is that this world-class entertainer retails for under $20, proving yet again that expensive is not always superior when it comes to wine. There’s nothing elite or operatic about it. Like your favourite Spotify mix, it’s the red you can turn to when you just want to chill. The vibrant deep ruby red colour is beguiling while the seductively smooth and fruit driven palate is loaded with dark berries with hints of mint and eucalyptus slowly revealing themselves as the experience unfolds. Delicious drinking for all music lovers.
