Why we love these wines
As some of you know, we’ve featured Oliver’s Taranga here before because we adore them. However, it’s the first time we’ve had access to these two particular small batch wines! And we can’t wait for you to get your mitts on them because they’re a refreshing change to the mainstream varieties that can make mid-week drinking a bit boring. Made in McLaren Vale, arguably Australia’s second most famous wine region after the Barossa, the Vale’s mediterranean climate is proving to be a hit for Vermentino (a white variety originally from Italy) and Grenache. And the gang at Oliver’s Taranga certainly know how to bring them both to life with dazzling results – as you’ll soon discover!
Who are Oliver's Taranga?
Led by two of the best wine chicks around – winemaker and CEO Corrina Wright and Operations Manager Brioni Oliver – these cousins are the sixth generation growers of ultra-premium McLaren Vale grapes. We’re talking about the kind that is chosen for icon wines like Penfolds Grange. However, in 1994 Corrina’s grandad and uncles agreed to let her keep some fruit and make her own wine. And we’re glad they did because this was what propelled her to found the Oliver’s Taranga wine label and go on to make award-winning vino! While the quality of Corrina’s wines speak for themselves, we think her willingness to speak up about gender equality in the wine industry makes them taste extra special. Cheers to girl power!

Oliver’s Taranga 2017 Small Batch Vermentino
Region: McLaren Vale
RRP: $25.00 as at 25/05/2018
There’s a new, zesty white wine in town and it’s got our taste buds racing! A native of Italy, Vermentino has been romancing our glasses of late here in Australia thanks to its ability to produce thirst-quenching wine in our warmer climates. And this one is a particularly fabulous example. Like a millionaire playboy full of energy and dazzling charisma, it bursts from the glass with aromas of sea spray and lemons, and a good squeeze of crunchy acidity. While it’s exploding with tantalising citrus and herbal flavours, it also knows how to offer genuine refreshment and a satisfyingly clean, crisp finish. So, dive right in because we know you’re going to fall head over heels in love with this dashing vino just like we did!
Oliver’s Taranga 2016 Grenache
Region: McLaren Vale
RRP: $30.00 as at 25/05/18
This Grenache has flavour and personality in abundance, while at the same time exuding the sort of old school charm that has seen the variety become a much loved hero of the McLaren Vale region. It’s a handsome cherry red in colour, with loads of raspberry flavour, a little spice and plenty of crunchy tannins that keep the wine fresh, bouncy and irresistibly delicious. There’s something so utterly likeable about it too. Sure, it may display airs of confidence and hide behind its impressive reputation, but at the end of the day it can’t hide the fact that it’s all about fun and flavour. It’s the kind of wine that calls for a charcuterie platter, an open fire, and an evening of riotous conversation. So, crack it open as soon as you can, because this lively little Grenache has got fun times written all over it!
