Why we love these wines
Put your tongue between your teeth and with your breathiest, Spanish-inspired voice say Mencia with a ‘th’. Oliver’s Taranga are the first in Australia to plant this Spanish red grape variety, and have made a Rosé from it that’s got more feel good moves than a showing of Dirty Dancing at the Drive-In. Pretty, dry and floral, it’ll land that lift in the grand finale to a standing ovation.
This Shiraz, meanwhile, is the Johnny Castle all-time bad boy with the heart of gold. Classic and modern all at once, he’s rich, well structured and full of the tasty mocha and berry flavours that will have everyone swooning. Together, these heart-warming wines are a pairing sure to fire up your July.
Who are Oliver's Taranga?
Unless you’re brand new here, you’ll already know that Corrina Wright and Brioni Oliver – both 6th generation family members of Oliver’s Taranga – are two of our favourite fabulous ladies of wine.
The Oliver’s have been growing grapes in McLaren Vale since the 1840’s, and are famous for their top quality fruit, including the stuff that goes into Grange! But it’s only in recent years that they’ve started making their own wine. And that’s thanks to these two. Corrina is the CEO and Winemaker, and Brioni the Operations Manager. Together they produce wines that are literally taking the world by storm. Now’s your chance to try them!

Oliver’s Taranga 2016 Chica Mencia Rosé
Region: McLaren Vale, SA
RRP: $25.00 as at 28/06/17
Chica boom! Oliver’s Taranga have taken the red and fruity Spanish red variety Mencia (pronounced men-THEE-ya) and given it a brand new incarnation as one of the prettiest pink Rosés around. It’s like slurping on a big wedge of watermelon right down to the rind, with bright florals, rosewater and a dry, thirst quenching, lingering finish. A classic in the making that has cast off its traditional (red wine) history and instead embraced a far more exciting and lively existence, with loads of feel- good vibes. Because nobody puts Baby in a corner. Sip with canapes of goats cheese, fig and truffled honey or for a truly exhilarating taste sensation try it with white-choc berry cheesecake.
Oliver’s Taranga 2015 Shiraz
Region: McLaren Vale, SA
RRP: $30.00 as at 28/06/17
Shiraz has been planted in the Oliver vineyards since the 1840s. Yet there’s nothing tired about what’s on offer here. This is Dirty Dancing’s Johnny Castle. An all-time bad boy with the heart of gold. The one everyone loves to get all gushy over, no matter what your usual ‘type’ might be. How can anyone not fall for the lashings of mocha, coffee and blackberry compote? With great structure too. A hero of the region he may be, but it takes finesse, skill and the patience of a talented woman to make him all he should be. Some seriously satisfying sipping.
