Oliver’s Taranga Fiano 2014
I’m a little bit obsessed with Fiano at the moment. It’s almost like being in the throes of an early romance. It’s all I can think about, I can’t get enough of it, and when we’re apart I’m constantly picturing the moment I can see it again.
(I may or may not also have been seen picking up an empty bottle and holding it close while inhaling it’s very essence…)
Oliver’s Taranga are one of the pioneers of Fiano in Australia, and more specifically in McLaren Vale. And not only are they pioneers, they’re also artisans, crafting high quality and gorgeously more-ish Fiano that is setting the benchmark very high.
Their 2014 is all the things a fabulous Fiano should be. Fresh and vibrant but also complex and textural. This one has less of the herbal characters (common to Fiano) and more of the green apple and melon flavours that I adore, all beautifully backdropped by a glorious nuttiness that adds more volume than your Wella Mousse blow-wave.
With great length of flavour and a dry, crisp, clean finish to get you ready for your next mouthful, this is a Fiano that’ll make your heart sing.
Just don’t hug the bottle.
A big bowl of spaghetti with garlic, parsley and lemon zest. Or a huge wad of hard cheese and a whole packet of crackers – that can be dinner too, right?
Rating: 4.5/5 This is love.
