Why Are They So Fabulous?
Nestled in picturesque wooded hills since being established in 1970, Skillogalee is a small, family owned and operated winery producing distinctive, handcrafted wines.
Just a few kilometres south of the charming Clare township, the cellar door operates in a 160 year old cottage. Admire the vines and rose gardens while you indulge in the Clare Valley’s first and longest running winery restaurant – most awarded too! Gourmet Traveller WINE can’t get enough of them.
The emphasis is on interesting dishes from around the world using the best ingredients, local if possible, well-presented and professionally served.
In the winery, fruit handling and vinification are undertaken using the best of traditional and modern technologies – modern winemaking techniques, particularly for whites, to preserve the fruit aromas and flavours, and more traditional techniques for reds – the use of open-fermenters and basket pressing to maximise flavour and colour without over-extraction.
Keen to rest your weary head? There is a range of comfortable self-contained B&B accommodation including the luxurious Skillogalee House, a fabulous stone farm house nestled in the middle of the vineyards.
What more could you want from your visit to Clare!
Which Wines Should I Try?
Skillogalee 2016 Riesling – the wine for which they are best known – and with good reason!
Skillogalee 2015 Gewurztraminer – Prepare to have your mind blown. This is a dry Gewurtz. Yes, dry! Check your preconceptions about Gewurz in at the door. So unusual, that Halliday awarded it 95 points.
Skillogalee 2016 Cabernet Malbec Rose – is a Rose with attitude! Great as an aperitif or with modern Australian Cuisine.
Skillogalee 2014 Shiraz and 2013 The Cabernets – From what was the highest vineyard in SA when it was planted, rich flavours but retaining finess and elegance.
All Skillogalee wines are vegan friendly
