Why Are They So Fabulous?
Rob Dolan is a bit of a legend in the Aussie wine business, and he set up Rob Dolan Wines’ in 2010 after 25 years crafting wine for others. The unique Cellar Door is located at the winery in South Warrandyte, just 30 minutes from Melbourne’s CBD – Sunday drive anyone?
Their intimate space has been incorporated into the properties’ original farmhouse which is set on over 100 acres of beautiful rolling farmland and vineyard.
The friendly and knowledgeable Cellar Door staff are on hand to guide you through a comprehensive tasting of the range of wines. You are welcome to purchase wine to takeaway or enjoy on the deck or in the gardens over a game of Bocce or Finska.
And the cheese…!! A selection of local produce including Stone and Crow Cheese is available seven days a week; these innovative and experimental cheeses are matured at the winery by Cheesemaker and Founder Jack Holman. Make your own platter with accompaniments such as Mount Zero Olives, Crackers by The Farm Yarra Valley and Rob Dolan’s very own range of pickles, pastes, relishes and jellies.
Also on offer is a selection of craft coffee, tea and non-alcoholic drinks.
Which Wines Should I Try?
Rob Dolan focuses on what the Yarra does best – Chardonnay, Shiraz and Pinot Noir, with a little Cab Sav, Pinot Gris, Sav B and Merlot, for good measure. And it has to be said that he does it all at a great price for the quality on offer. Plus Rob makes some interesting field blends and other creative styles from small available parcels. These are grouped under three different labels and all have PLENTY of yum to offer.
- White Label – unique wines produced in limited quantities from various sites throughout the Yarra Valley.
- True Colours – approachable wines produced from premium Yarra Valley fruit highlighting regional and varietal characters and reflecting the welcoming personality of the Winemaker.
- Black Label – “one off” wines which aim to uncover unique varietals and styles. Each vintage the products change depending on fruit quality and availability.
