Why are they so fabulous?
We love family run wineries, and there’s few families more darn fabulous than this one. Those Pizzinis are oozing Italian hospitality from their pores. By the end of one visit to their cellar door, you’ll want to be a Pizzini too!
Pizzini specialise in producing fine Italian wine varieties from the King Valley, and they’ve been growing grapes here since the 1970’s. They were some of the first in Australia to plant Nebbiolo, Sangiovese and Pinot Grigio – and they haven’t looked back.
At the gorgeous cellar door, which is a converted tobacco drying kiln, you’ll not only be able to work your way through the extensive offering of Italian varietal wines, but you can also pick up all manner of local foodie treats.
The cellar door is also home to matriarch Katrina Pizzini’s hugely popular cooking school ‘A Tavola‘ You can view the class schedule here.
Which wines should you try?
Nebbiolo is a must while you’re here, and so is the Sangiovese. Lip smackingly good with food of all kinds. In the whites, the Verduzzo is sensational, and something you won’t find elsewhere!
But they also produce outstanding Pinot Grigio, Arneis (white), Brachetto (a sweet red), a Rosè, Riesling, Sav Blanc, Chardonnay, Merlot, Cab Sav, and Shiraz blends.
