Why are they so fabulous?
It’s the crisp, clean essence of the Paracombe area, the passion of a beautiful family and the love of sound winemaking that embodies Paracombe Wines. Set high on a plateau at Paracombe in the Adelaide Hills of South Australia, this family-run winery produces low-yield premium wines.
Having a strong environmental philosophy, the vineyard is hand pruned and uses minimal irrigation. The winery uses solar power, water retention techniques and has built function spaces using Eco panel walling. In other words, these guys love their environment, love their vines and we get to love their wines.
The energetic and remarkable founders, Kathy and Paul Drogemuller, fell in love with the then dairy farm in 1983 and pursued their passion by planting vines and caring for the rich land, before launching Paracombe Wines in 1992. The family, now including daughter Sarah and son Ben, have maintained a business philosophy based in quality production and sound environmental practices that has lead them to becoming an award-winning winery. This is great news for us as it means fabulous wines to explore and enjoy!
Which wines should you try?
It’s soooo hard to choose! On the close of summer, with its fresh melon and peach flavours and creamy undertones, it’s hard to go past their single vineyard, limited release 2015 Chardonnay. However, for those love their Riesling, you’ll be delighted to know that the 2015 Holland Creek Riesling was recently recognized in the Halliday Wine Magazine with a fabulous 92 points as a great value wine! Yet, for the red lovers, we can’t go past their complex and flavoursome award-winning 2011 Shiraz and Shiraz Viognier. Finally, for something a little bit gutsy, earthy and formidable, try out the 2013 Malbec.
