Why are they so fabulous?
Lake Breeze is one of Australia’s most awarded boutique wineries, including being named Australia’s Champion Small Winery! And they are 100% family owned, with multiple generations of the family working in the business to make the gorgeous wines they’re famous for. (Just look at the ‘staff’ page on their website where just about everyone’s surname is Follett!)
Their stunning cellar door is absolutely worth a visit if you’re in the area and is open 7 days from 10am to 5pm, if you can, make sure you enjoy lunch in their wonderful vineyard restaurant.
The Follett family have been grape growers in Langhorne Creek for over 130 years and winemakers since 1987, so you could say they know a thing or two about producing quality wines from what has to be one of Australian wine’s most underrated and over performing wine regions.
The varieties grown on the vineyard include cabernet sauvignon, shiraz and chardonnay, with small blocks of grenache, merlot, petit verdot and white frontignac. And they have some of the oldest vines in Australia. Only the best 30-40% of fruit is selected from the older vines on the property, to create wines with amazing depth of flavour. These wines include the highly acclaimed ‘Bernoota’ [Shiraz/Cabernet], Cabernet Sauvignon, Arthur’s Reserve and Winemaker’s Selection Shiraz labels.
Which wines should you try?
The Bernoota isn’t famous for nothing! A juicy and rich Shiraz Cabernet which over delivers on value and wow factor. It’s made from their old vines and only $22 a bottle.
Also, don’t miss their Old Vine Grenache, Winemakers Selection Shiraz and – a new cab off the rank – a deliciously bright Vermentino.
