Why Are They So Fabulous?
Heirloom Vineyards was conceived in vintage 2000, when a young winemaking student caught the eye of a silly old wine judge.
A love story ensued inspired by two vows:
To preserve the best of tradition, the old world of wine and our unique old vineyards
To champion the best clones of each variety planted in the most appropriate sites embracing the principals of organic and biodynamic farming.
Seven long vintages of trial and error passed before Heirloom Vineyards could make a wine that was fine enough to pass on to future generations.
That is this wine.
Intrigued? Well you had better make some of this wine yours, quick smart! Hailing from the Adelaide Hills, Barossa, Eden Valley and McLaren Vale, you are sure to find something you love amongst this collection of classic and emerging varieties.
Which Wines Should I Try?
Heirloom Eden Valley Riesling – Bursting out of your glass are typical Eden Valley floral aromas. Fresh and fruity but with a marvellously mouth filling juicy palate; a touch of creamy mouth-feel a wonderful part of the landscape. To finish, taught acidity with washed river stone-like minerality which delves into green apples.
Heirloom Adelaide Hills Chardonnay – Spring the Adelaide Hills leaps from your glass, and a veritable ripening of stone fruit. Also, intriguingly, cooking leeks in butter. Citrus flavours, white peach and nectarine again. Super food friendly, acidity and freshness is the key to keeping all the flavour to the forefront.
Heirloom Shiraz – McLaren Vale vs Barossa – Elena and Zar Brooks produce shiraz from two of Australia’s premium shiraz regions, Barossa and McLaren Vale. Have your own shiraz-off by trying both side by side. From the powerhouse Barossa, expect bold but not over-ripe black fruits and an interesting chocolate-spice note on the palate. From the McLaren Vale, expect elegant dark fruit with a hint of spice, and oak intensity.
