Why Are They So Fabulous?
Right at the gateway to the Margaret River Wine Region – Flametree Wines takes pride of place.
9 years young, this family owned winery aims to produce exceptional quality wines that exhibit the hallmark characters of structure, perfume and elegance.
As all fabulous wines should!
No shrinking violets here, Flametree won the Jimmy Watson with their first ever wine! The Jimmy? Oh, just Australia’s most respected Trophy for best young red in the country.
Cliff Royle is the talented winemaker behind their ongoing success, supported by Julian Scott, their winery manager. Cliff’s driving philosophy is that “if you get the right varieties planted on the right sites you’re well on your way to making fantastic wines.”
So expect to see the unique characteristics of sub-region specific wines in their line up!
Which Wines Should I Try?
Flametree S.R.S Karridale Sauvignon Blanc – Some nutty lees (spent yeast that has done it’s job of turning sugar into alcohol!) with plenty of grapefruit, guava and kiwi fruits on the nose. The style is deliberately savoury, concentrating more on texture and complexity rather than sheer fruit power. Enjoy well chilled with seafood, sunshine and fine company.
Flametree Cabernet Merlot 2014 – There are some hidden friends in this blend – Malbec and Petit Verdot as well as the Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot! Why you may ask? Cabernet provides fragrance and structure; Merlot adds mid-palate weight and some lovely earthy notes; Malbec provides further flesh on the palate as well as ripe, sweet tannins; whilst Petit Verdot adds dark fruits and a balanced, dry finish. On the nose you’ll find blackberry, cassis and red currants, with rich chocolate and cocoa notes. When you sip there are ripe black fruits finishing with fine, chocolatey, slippery tannins. The varieties meld together seamlessly.
