Why Are They So Fabulous?
There’s a sense of purpose at Delamere Vineyards – they’re on a quest to unlock the magic of their vineyard and capture it in the wines they make. Every one marks a milestone on the Delamere journey.
Located in the Pipers Brook region of north-eastern Tasmania, this is a place where you can relax and watch the wines being made around you – sparkling wines being set up for hand riddling, or pinot noir and chardonnay maturing in oak. Or perhaps you’d prefer to simply sit out under the pergola with a glass of wine and take in the gentle tranquil surroundings of the Delamere property.
Winemakers Fran Austin and husband Shane Holloway reckon they didn’t choose Delamere Vineyards – it chose them. From the first moment they walked into the vineyard, they could almost hear the vines telling them why they were there.
Close planted, on the side of a steep hill, freezing cold. A vineyard that demanded to be managed 100% by hand so you could feel the intent of each and every vine. To make world-class wines that spoke of their place. How could they have ever walked away?
Which Wines Should I Try?
And so, almost a decade on, with their life’s purpose clear in their minds, Fran and Shane are on a journey to unlock the inherent beauty of the site and encapsulate a part of that story in each wine from each vintage.
Their passion for the region of Tasmania, at similar latitude to the Champagne and Burgundy regions in France, arises from a desire to seek out a genuine cold climate that can produce wines of classic structure, combining fruit intensity with refinement, complexity with persistence of flavour, and the ultimate expression and grape and region.
Planted to chardonnay and pinot noir, the vineyard produces outstanding vintage and non vintage sparkling wine in three styles, Blanc de Blanc, Pinot Chardonnay and Rose. The sparkling wines are complemented by outstanding single vineyard chardonnay and pinot noir and a pinot noir rose.
