Anderson Winery

Small batch, hand made wines

Why are they so fabulous?

If ultra-boutique and artisan wine delights you then you can’t go past Anderson. Father and daughter winemakers Howard and Christobelle Anderson work together to make all of the wines on site, in small, hand-made batches (most of the wines are just 3 or 4 barrels worth).

As one of the smaller wineries in Rutherglen, they impressively boast a large range of wines. There’s eight different grape varieties in the family’s vineyard, which is only 8.8 hectares in size!

Using modern knowledge combined with traditional methods, Howard and Christobelle create innovative blends as well as old favourites. They employ techniques like dryland viticulture (no watering or irrigation), hand harvesting and basket pressing. and the traditional Champagne technique entirely by hand.

Which wines should you try?

Sparkling wine lovers should flock here because Anderson do some of the most innovative and interesting bubbly anywhere! They use the traditional Champagne method – by hand! – for all of them. The more innovative ones to try include a sparkling chenin blanc, and a sparkling 100% durif. But it’s their sparkling shiraz they’re famous for and it doesn’t disappoint.

In the still wine department, their durif shiraz blends – of which they are pioneers of the style – are unmissable. Plus they also do lovely viognier, petit verdot and tempranillo.
