Why are they so fabulous?
Amadio Wines’ story begins in 1936 with Giovanni Amadio, an Italian man who moved to Australia. After spending years of making wine inspired by his home country for friends, he registered his Dry Table Wine and word rapidly spread. In 1985, his son, Gaetano continued the winemaking tradition with an entrepreneurial spirit. He purchased the first vineyard plot in the Adelaide Hills, an action that was considered risky at the time as hardly anyone grew grapes there back then!
The risk and hard work that followed produced premium wine that was served and awarded worldwide. Now, the third generation from the Amadio family, Danniel Amadio directs his winemaking passion to crafting wines that tantalise the senses and honour family custom: producing consistent and premium quality wines.
Nestled in the Adelaide Hills’ serene Kersbrook area is Amadio Wines’ vineyard. Kersbrook is considerably warmer and drier than other areas in the region, therefore the low-vigour fruit ripens earlier with much more tannin and lower acidity. The vineyard is the largest holding producer in the Adelaide Hills supplying regional varietal grapes to Amadio Wines and other internationally recognised Australian brands.
Which wines should I try?
There’s an abundance of varieties grown and produced by Amadio. You can sip on Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Fiano, Pinot Grigio, Arneis and Moscato for white wine. Then in the red are Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Grenache, Sangiovese, Barbera, Dolcetto, Tempranillo, Montepulciano, Aglianico and Sagrantino. It’s no coincidence that their Italian heritage has directly influenced what they produce!
To ensure the quality of each bottle, winemaker Danniel Amadio, personally selects the best fruit parcels as well as takes guidance inspiration from his Italian heritage.
If you fancy a taste of Amadio Wines’ range, you have a choice of TWO cellar doors to visit – in Adelaide or Kangaroo Island. The Kangaroo Island cellar door also offers platters, pizzas and tapas so you can linger and enjoy the cozy atmosphere.
