In a lovely piece of serendipity the Brown sisters are now heavily involved in running the highly successful Brown Brothers wine brand, and Katherine Brown – the eldest daughter of Ross and Judy Brown – is the Public Relations Manager, overseeing both the domestic and international export markets. Having been born with the industry in her veins, it’s perhaps unsurprising to know that she’s flourished since taking on the role in the family business in 2010, and in 2012 Katherine was named one of 15 future wine industry leaders and accepted into the ‘Australian Wine Industry Future Leaders’ program.
Here is her fabulous story!
When did you first enter the wine industry & why?
I was born into the industry and I could not image working anywhere else!
What does your current role involve?
Lots of talking and travelling also eating and drinking.
From where/what regions do you source your grapes?
Victoria (Heathcote, King Valley and Murray Valley) and the beautiful Tasmania.
What’s the philosophy behind Brown Brothers wines?
Innovation, always trying something different.
From the range of wines you produce, what are your personal favourites?
Prosecco is my clear favourite at the moment; the perfect drink when the sun is shining.
What’s your all-time favourite food & wine match?
Fresh Tassie oysters and a Tassie Riesling.
If you had to describe yourself as a wine it would be….
Vermentino, easy going and a little bit different!
Favourite way to while away a Sunday afternoon?
Sitting on a boat fishing (without mobile phone reception)
Flats or heels?
Depends on the mission!
If there was one thing you wish you could tell the sisterhood of wine lovers out there, what would it be?
Don’t be afraid to try new wines, especially the ones with names you can’t pronounce.
You can meet Katherine in person and try the wines from Brown Brothers at our Women, Wine & Shoes events in Melbourne on 18th April and Brisbane on 23rd April. For more information about these exciting events, and to purchase your tickets, CLICK HERE.
