heathcote wine and food festival 2013

Over two days, the Heathcote Wine & Food Festival offers up 200 regional wines alongside exceptional food, great entertainment and a celebratory atmosphere.

Now in  its 12th fabulous year, the 2013 Heathcote Wine & Food Festival offers some enticing new elements. The inaugural Heathcote Wine Show, held just two months ago, brought to light the extraordinary depth of the wines of the region, and festival attendees will have the chance to taste every medal and trophy winning wine; the best of the best of the region.

For wine lovers with a particular penchant for shiraz, one of Australia’s most prolific and widely  tasted wine commentators, Nick Stock, will hold court in a Shiraz Masterclass. The class will explore the best shiraz of the Heathcote region alongside global stand-outs of the  same variety. With wines hand-picked by Nick, it promises to be an exciting insight into one of Australia’s most beguiling wine styles.

Also new this is year are cooking demonstrations by acclaimed chef Patrick Aldred (Spice Bazaar Cooking School). His inimitable style will guide you through the creation of some of his most  exceptional dishes, with tasting plates to savour as you learn, matched with Heathcote wines.

A favourite of the Festival is the Wine Tasting Seminars; 30-minute  sessions hosted by noted wine educator Rob Hicks, which are perfect for the interested novice to glean an accessible insight into the varying styles and characteristics of Heathcote wine. Great wine is even better with great food, and the Festival has plenty to offer in this area. Find a grassy spot and graze on the grounds with a wide range of delicious food offerings from numerous vendors. There’s also produce galore, both local and regional, including olive oils and olive products, nuts,  cheeses, prime beef, preserves, spices, gourmet biscuits, puddings and more.

Live music all weekend includes appearances from Greg Champion & the Cool Rockin’ Daddies, The Tequila Mockingbirds and contemporary folk duo Suzette Herft & Patrick Evans. For the little ones, expect giant soap bubbles, fire eating and breathing,  comedy balloons, magic and juggling. And the best part? The ever-popular Festival Bus takes guests from either Melbourne or Bendigo, and back again. Bookings are  highly recommended for this ever-popular event, as well as for tasting sessions, where space is limited.
