Mention the Adelaide Hills these days and chances are most people will tell you “Oh, you’ve got to visit Golding Wines!” The vineyard and cellar door not only produce a gorgeous range of hugely popular cool climate wines, but their stunning, family friendly property, with terraced gardens and gorgeous vistas make them a ‘must visit’ when you’re in the region.
The vineyard was set up by Darren with his parents, Connie and Greg, in 1995. The area was famous for apple growing, but where is the fun in apples, right?
Greg realised the potential of the Lenswood region in the Adelaide Hills for growing premium quality grapes, with free draining soils, mild summer days, cool crisp nights and plenty of rainfall. Darren and Lucy then launched the first Golding Wines vintage in 2002.
Ever since then, the fabulous Lucy has been a bit of a one woman band doing everything from toiling in the vineyard to keeping busy with marketing, Tweeting and Facebooking. She’s also a keen foodie and, of course, is busy raising Louis to be a top notch cellar door dog!
Not content with just establishing a vineyard, the property is now also home to one of the most stunning cellar doors and celebration venues in the area and is a popular location for weddings. Darren and Lucy come from an architectural design background and it shows. The stone barn and terrace overlook the gently undulating hills, so you can grab a grazing board brimming with cheeses and cured meats, add a glass – or a bottle – of wine and let the kiddos run amok on the lawns at this family friendly vineyard.
Golding Wines are also a member of the Adopt a Vine program. A great gift idea for a wine loving friend, and much easier to look after than a new pet – the vines are fully toilet trained and won’t shed hair on the carpet. If you’re feeling the need to flex your green thumb further there are even vines for sale to take home with you at the cellar door.
