Flametree Wines Celebrates 10 years!

Remember turning 10? The year you first hit double digits? It’s a pretty big deal. And one of our favourite Margaret River wineries is celebrating that decade milestone right now. In a region that itself is only 50 years old, that’s a birthday worth celebrating.

Flametree Wines was founded in 2007 and over the last 10 years has established itself in the top echelon of Margaret River wine producers.

By winning the Jimmy Watson Trophy with its very first wine, the 2007 Cabernet Merlot, Flametree established its vision of producing first-rate Australian wines of uncompromising quality and character. Being a finalist again the following year with the 2008 Cabernet Merlot proved Flametree Wines was deserving of this prestigious award.

General Manager and Chief Winemaker Cliff Royle says “The aim at Flametree Wines is to make a range of wines that play to the strengths of the region and consistently deliver a great drinking experience at any price point. Margaret River wines should exhibit the hallmark characters of structure, perfume and elegance that has made this region famous.”

Flametree Wines is fairly unique in that it does not own any vineyards, making the decision to partner with established vineyards throughout the Margaret River region to take advantage of the soil conditions and climates that are unique to each sub-region within Margaret River. This has led to a period of sustained success across a range of varieties.

Flametree’s SRS Wallcliffe Chardonnay has proven a consistent performer rating 95 points and higher with James Halliday since 2010. The 2014 vintage was rated 2015 Wine of the Year by Philip Rich, Australian Financial Review, was rated 98 points from JamesSuckling.com and appeared in the Top 10 of his 2015 Top 100 Wines of the World.

Flametree Wines has achieved Gold for its current release SRS Wilyabrup Cabernet Sauvignon at the Perth Royal Wine Show 2016, 4 Gold medals for the current release SRS Wallcliffe Chardonnay at the Melbourne, Sydney, Margaret River and Mount Barker Wine Shows and Gold for the current release Sauvignon Blanc Semillon at the Margaret River Wine Show highlighting the consistency. This was further complemented by the 2016 Pinot Rosé winning the Trophy for Best Rose at the 2016 Royal Melbourne Wine Awards.

Flametree Wines will be officially popping the bubbly and celebrating its 10 successful years as a Margaret River Wine Region producer with an industry and members event in October in Perth.
