Figs with Blue Cheese and Prosciutto

I don’t know about you but I definitely feel spring in the air and summer on it’s way!

I love entertaining when the weather is good – for some reason it just seems easier.  I am told that this summer El Nino is back with us, so expect little rain and lots of sun.  Translation: many opportunities for Fabulous Ladies Wine Soirees and that is what the focus of this weeks recipe is all about!!

When it comes to entertaining I am all about impressing my friends with fabulous food and wine BUT I am also all about ensuring I have an enjoyable time and don’t spend it all in the kitchen.

There is nothing quite like hosting the perfect event and everyone leaving raving about the food.  That is exactly what will happen when you serve up this week’s wonderfully tasty and easy hors d’oeuvre – Figs with Blue Cheese and Prosciutto.

  • 6 fresh figs
  • Blue Cheese (use your favorite) large cubes
  • 6 pieces of Prosciutto or Pancetta
  • Leatherwood Honey (Optional)

Preheat the oven to 180 degrees.

Cut a cross in the top of the figs (you don’t need to hollow out).  Stuff the blue cheese cubes into the figs.  Wrap a piece of pancetta around each fig and place in an oven proof dish.

Pop in the oven for around 10 mins.  Place on a serving platter and drizzle with Leatherwood Honey.  If you don’t like honey try shaving some nutmeg over.

Sit back and enjoy the compliments!

This dish is perfectly matched with either of this month’s wonderful wines from the online women’s wine club – Dominique Portet Fontaine Rosé 2011 or Brown Brothers NV Pinot Noir Chardonnay Pinot Meunier

  1. I stole this exact recipe from a favourite restaurant when they closed. I use my own figs when ripe and it's gorgeous. You can also use gorgonzola cheese.
