FABULOUS LADIES REVIEW: Online Women’s Wine Club White Wine of the Month July 2012
d’Arenberg The Olive Grove Chardonnay 2011
If you think all Chardonnays are heavy, oaky and ready to be cut through with a knife then you haven’t yet discovered that, like all good actresses, Chardonnays can (almost) be anything you want them to be.
This d’Arenberg The Olive Grove Chardonnay 2011 (named for the olive trees growing nearby in the McLaren Vale area), is a crisp, modern style Chardonnay from one of Australia’s most successful wineries.
We chose it as our white wine of the month for July 2012 in our online women’s wine club, because Chardonnay is the perfect white wine for winter weather – with it’s warm flavours and long mouth feel. And also because we want more women to discover again just how versatile and amazing Chardonnay can be, and this value drop from d’Arenberg is an excellent example of the lighter, French style of Chardonnay we think more of us should be discovering.
(The full Tasting Notes & Wine Scoring Card are still available for download too, if you’d like them! Just because we’ve finished tasting this wine as part of our online wine club, doesn’t mean it’s too late for you to try, buy and taste the wine using our fabulous, girl friendly tasting notes to guide you. Enjoy!)
And what did our wine club participants think?
Scores of 4 – 4 1/2 were by far and away the most commonly reported. A pretty big thumbs up for such a bargain priced Chardonnay! But it was the comments that we loved. Here’s some of our favourites:
“I’m not a huge fan of Chardonnays, but I found myself really liking this!”
“I’m going to keep it simple: I liked it. A lot!”
“It’s a great example of a well rounded, balanced Chardonnay.”
“It’s lighter than I expected and not too big or oaky. Didn’t know Chardonnay could be like this.”
Do yourself a favour and grab yourself a bottle of the d’Arenberg The Olive Grove Chardonnay 2011 and enjoy the lighter side of Chardonnay.
