Coonawarra Cabernet Weekend 17 – 19 October 2014

The 18th Annual Coonawarra Cabernet Weekend is almost here! And I’m a wee bit excited as this year I’m lucky enough to be going down there myself. Yeehar! Come and join me!

The Coonawarra Cabernet Weekend is rated one of the top events in South Australia. Held over the weekend of 17th to 19th October 2014, you can choose from over 30 exciting events and exclusive tastings at Coonawarra’s outstanding cellar doors.

There’s great food, sensational wine, live music and once in a lifetime experiences to indulge in. This year marks the 18th year that the Cabernet Weekend has been running and the jam-packed program includes the famous Master Class featuring Cabernets from all over the southern hemisphere (of which I am a member of the panel. Yikes – look out Cabernet world!!) and the Retrospective Tasting showcasing Coonawarra Cabernet from 2004 and older.

Coonawarra Grape and Wine Incorporated representative, Renee Harrison, told me she’s really looking forward to another great weekend in the region.

“Australia is fast becoming one of the top food and wine destinations in the world and it’s events like this that really show off the quality of our produce and the skill of our producers,” said Renee.

“We are so privileged in Australia that people can visit a region like Coonawarra and be invited to become a part of the community”.

So what’s the secret for producing Australia’s finest Cabernet Sauvignon? Experts say it lies in the Coonawarra region’s magical marriage of rich red terra rossa soil, limestone, pure underground water and a long cool ripening season for the grapes.

That’s all true of course, but there’s one other essential ingredient I think they’ve missed. Passion!! It’s the passion of the producers in the region that give it that unmistakable Coonawarra character. And I can’t wait to get there.

Coonawarra is in South Australia and is located halfway between Melbourne and Adelaide. Visit for the full program of events.
