For the first time since the initial launch of the range in 2003, Brown Brothers will release all five ‘Patricia’ wines in 2016.

Named in honour of the Brown family’s matriarch, the late Patricia Brown, the range represents the very best in viticulture and winemaking from Brown Brothers. The range is released each year on March 17th, St Patricks Day and Patricia’s Birthday.

Ross Brown, Executive Director and Brown Family member said “Having five diverse wine styles all reaching ultimate quality reflects our fabulous viticultural seasons. These wines are very special and I know Patricia would be so proud to have her name on the bottle.”

Since the first release 13 years ago, 38 wines out of a possible 70 wines have been released into the market. Such is the commitment to the Patricia range, that if a wine does not meet stringent quality measures it will not bear the Patricia name. So the fact that the full range has been released in 2016 is no small achievement.

This year’s release is comprised of the: 2010 Patricia Pinot Noir Chardonnay Brut, the 2011 Patricia Chardonnay, the 2012 Patricia Shiraz, the 2010 Patricia Cabernet Sauvignon and the 2013 Patricia Noble Riesling.

2010 Patricia Pinot Noir Chardonnay Brut

RRP $44.95 Region: 100% Whitlands, 800m (King Valley)
Blend: Pinot Noir 80%, Chardonnay 20%

Fruit is 100% handpicked, followed by whole bunch pressing into our Kindergarten winery (small scale winery). Five years ageing on yeast lees has imparted complex toast and brioche notes, enhanced by a rich palate and creamy, soft mousse.

2011 Patricia Chardonnay

RRP $41.90 Region: 100% Coombe Farm (Yarra Valley)

Fruit is 100% handpicked and barrel fermented in new and older French oak barriques, with a combination of wild and neutral yeast. Following fermentation the wine is held on yeast lees in oak for ten months to enhance mouthfeel and complexity. This elegant wine has multilayered notes of stone fruit, lemon curd and creamy nuttiness.

2012 Patricia Shiraz

(Heathcote), 18% Henty Vineyard (Henty) 8% Moonlight Vineyard (Central Victoria).

Brown Brothers’ finest parcels of fruit were crushed and de-stemmed into stainless steel fermenters with 10% whole bunches. Aged in barriques for 18 months with 44% new oak (14% French and 30% American). An aromatic shiraz with berry and pepper spice notes, complemented by a generous palate and approachable lengthy tannins. A wine of great complexity and intensity.

Heathcote Vineyard (Heathcote)

The finest parcels of fruit were carefully handled in the Brown Brothers Kindergarten winery to craft this wine. It was fermented on skins for a week and held in French oak barriques for 17 months with 77% new, 20% year old and the balance in older oak. This is a varetially expressive and complex wine, with savoury spice and cassis, blackberry and delicate tobacco notes. Its rich and generous tannin structure is long and concentrated on the palate.

2013 Patricia Noble Riesling

RRP $34.95 Region: 100% Milawa Vineyard (King Valley)

To achieve the complex flavour profile of this luscious wine, the fruit is handpicked over six different dates, and then kept in the press for twelve hours before being transferred to tank. The wine is fermented in stainless steel with a small amount of 3% aged in new French oak for greater depth of flavour. With inviting aromas of orange marmalade, butterscotch and floral notes, the rich palette is perfectly balanced by the naturally high acidity and persistent length of flavour.
