7 Myths About Our Women-only Wine Tours

(And What It’s Really Like To Come Along)

Every time we talk to women about our wine tours, the same sentences pop up:

“I’d love to… but I don’t really know enough about wine.”
“It sounds amazing… but I don’t have anyone to come with.”
“I feel like those tours are just for really wealthy women.”

Sound familiar?

If you’ve ever quietly talked yourself out of joining us, this one’s for you. Let’s gently dismantle the biggest myths we hear about our tours – and show you what actually happens when you say yes.

Myth 1: “These tours are only for single women.”

There’s a quiet assumption that if you join a women-only tour you must be single, newly divorced, or actively escaping someone!

In reality, our groups are a glorious mix of:

  • Women in long-term relationships or marriages
  • Women who are single, divorced or widowed
  • Women travelling with sisters, friends, daughters or mums
  • Women who just want to do something for themselves, regardless of relationship status
  • Women whose partners have cheerfully waved them off at the airport

Choosing to travel with other women isn’t a relationship status. It’s a travel style.

Travelling without your partner (if you have one) gives you space to reconnect with yourself – to have your own stories, make your own friends, and drink a glass of something beautiful without worrying if someone else is having a good time. You get to step out of your usual roles (partner, mother, carer, boss) and simply be… you.

Myth 2: “You have to be a wine expert.”

Many women assume everyone else on tour will be able to swirl, sniff and pronounce obscure Italian grape varieties before breakfast, while they sit there thinking, “I just know what I like.”

The truth? That’s exactly who our tours are for.

On tour, you’ll find:

  • No pop quizzes and no intimidating tasting exams
  • Plain-English explanations of what’s in your glass
  • Winemakers and hosts who genuinely want you to ask questions
  • Plenty of space to simply sip and enjoy

If you can confidently say “yes please” to another pour, you are qualified!

Myth 3: “These tours are only for wealthy women.”

Let’s be honest: our tours are not the cheapest way to travel. They’re small-group, carefully hosted, all-inclusive and often once-in-a-lifetime experiences, and they’re priced accordingly. But that’s very different from being “only for the wealthy.”

Many guests choose one big trip and build their year around it. They save, plan ahead and care more about value and special access than about ticking off ten countries in ten days. (And we do have LOTS of repeat guests! Women who come every year or two on tour with us.)

We also don’t believe “luxury” has to mean gold taps and six-course tasting menus every night. Our style is a mix of beautiful comfort and authentic local experiences – the chic boutique hotel one night, the family-run trattoria or country farmhouse lunch the next.

You don’t need to be dripping in diamonds or own a Birkin bag. You just need to decide that you are worth investing in.

Myth 4: “You have to bring a friend – I’d feel like the odd one out.”

The idea of arriving alone and spending the week feeling like the odd one out? Absolutely not!

A significant number of women on every tour come solo. Within a day or two, no one can remember who came alone and who didn’t.

We make sure no one is left sitting awkwardly with an empty glass. Meals are taken as a group. Bus rides become story time. By day two, it usually feels like a travelling house party rather than a room full of strangers.

If you’re ready to take the plunge and book solo, we’ll take care of the rest!

Myth 5: “It’s just a boozy girls’ trip”

Yes, there is wine. No, it’s not a hen’s night that never ends. We find this myth really demeaning actually! And shows just what prejudices and biases exist in our minds when we think about what a women’s wine trip is like.

Our tours are absolutely not about “how much can we drink?”. They are about connection, learning, culture and place.

A typical day might look like:

  • A relaxed breakfast and a stroll through a historic town
  • A private visit with a female winemaker
  • A long, delicious lunch with matched wines
  • A quiet hour back at the hotel to nap or wander

You’ll certainly taste some extraordinary wines. But you won’t need a liver transplant when you get home.

Myth 6: “Group tours are rigid, impersonal and not my travel style.”

If you’re picturing a 50-seater coach following a flag through a crowded city square, you’re thinking of a very different style of travel. Our tours are small, personal, flexible and intentionally paced. You’re not herded. You’re held.

Myth 7: “I couldn’t possibly leave my partner (or family) behind.”

This one often comes out as a whisper. “Oh, I’d love to go… but I couldn’t just leave my husband.” (Or partner, or kids.)

Women are conditioned to put everyone else’s needs first. Taking time away for yourself can feel indulgent or guilt-inducing. But it’s not selfish – it’s healthy.

Time apart allows both of you to reset, recharge and come back with new energy. Many of our guests have partners who’ve encouraged them to go – even helped pack their suitcase.

You don’t have to be single to travel solo. You just have to be brave enough to say, “This one’s for me.”

Once you strip away the myths, you’re left with something like this…

  • They’re designed for women who love wine, food, culture and connection.
  • They’re small, personal and intentionally paced.
  • They’re all-women because that changes the dynamic: safer, more supportive, more real.
  • They’re an investment – in yourself, your joy, your curiosity, and your place in a community of wine-loving women around the world.

If your only reason for not coming is a story you’ve been telling yourself – that you’re not single enough, expert enough, wealthy enough or brave enough – consider this your gentle nudge.

You are exactly the kind of woman we design these tours for!
